Wing Block 1

Wing Blocks and Wing Block Techniques

Wing Blocks are a very unique method of technique, used by many different Chinese Martial Arts Systems.  Wing Blocks teach you to use your arms to block incoming attacks in a completely unique method. Wing Blocks are something like bell blocks except a little different. Stand up, and put your hands on your waist, now look in a mirror. Your arms make you look like a bell shape. Now if you turn side ways, your elbows and forearms can block any attack that comes towards you at midsection level. Standing in a horse stance, or Goat stance, with your hands on your hips, you can turn from side to side blocking anything that comes towards your mid section. Same time if you stand in a horse or goat stance, with your hands on your hips, then turn from side to side, this is a very good exercise for your waist, and back. While doing this, make sure to keep looking straight ahead.

Wing blocks are a little different then bell blocks, actually a lot different. One hand is on the hip, and your other hand is used to intercept any punch, as the punch comes into range, your hand grabs his wrist, and breaks his elbow with your forearm, or elbow of hand that was on hip. When you look at the Wing Blocks I have below, you will make much more sense of this, and I would right now go and take a look at the techniques. Once you look at them, everything will make much more sense to you. These techniques are taught as part of GM Chow's Ying Yee, they are an amazing amount of techniques that start with the first five. These five techniques can melt together in any given defense, and change into many methods as needed. Go and take a look at the first five Wing Blocks and come back and read above over again. Once you learn these techniques you will be amazed at how fast they work, plus you have a fair amount of control with these techniques, you do not have to break some ones arm, you can restrain them with a wrist lock, arm lock, or shoulder lock. And any restraining technique that we can do, shows compassion no matter your attacker.
