Technique What is it, how is it used, why is it important. Well that is exactly why we are here. When you start to learn techniques, they are very basic, and in a one count, then two count, and so on. We can't learn very advanced technique at the beginning of someone training because that makes it to hard for the student to learn exactly how to use his or her technique. That is why we learn in stages, and these stages have been set in stone for thousands of years. Even something as unimportant as the very first warm up we learn. You have to understand that it is important, that lowly push up, or sit up, or how to stretch, and for how long, it is very important when you think about it. Sure as time goes by you would think that the warm up is just that, a warm up, but remember it is very important, and even the way it is laid out is important, meaning when to do the push up, when to do the stretch, when to do your running on the spot, and your power of the instep, all of these things were put in an order that helps each other along the way. If someone thinks that they are better then all of the grand masters from histories past, they change the lay out of the warm up, again thinking they know better. But you know what they are doing, they are actually ruining it for the students. Why, because did you not learn it exactly how it was taught to your instructor and his instructor before him. Do you see my point, it is a very stupid thing to do, to make a stupid mistake. I hope you all see my point. And once more, remember the best instructor in the world, will teach you the way he was taught, he or she will give you exactly what they were given. Until the day comes where the student is a master himself, or herself. Then, and only then, will a true master start to teach his experience to his top student. His experience, will be everything that he found during his years as in instructor, teacher, master. He starts to teach his protégé, exactly what he found during sparing, or self defense. He will teach all that he found during his development in, Chi Kung, or other types of meditations. A great master will always teach his or her students the way he was taught, and only when he has taught all that he learned from his teachers, will he start to teach what he himself found along his most amazing years training the martial arts. This is another point to make about a great teacher, you see a great teacher does not think of himself as a great teacher, in fact he thinks of himself still as a student, only a student, still after sixty years of martial arts training. Yet in retrospect, you have students who arrive at black belt after three years of training, and all of a sudden, the chests come out, the the voice becomes thicker as he talks, trying to pretend something he is not. Who would you want to learn from, oh boy, think about that. Now after the warm up has been taught, the student, starts to remember it off by heart, and now he or she knows that if ever they become an instructor how important it is for them to teach the warm up exactly as it was taught to them, see my point now. Everything in nature has order, when that order has been changed is when problems start, so please everyone take a long look at what you are doing and teaching. Now as we get into the basic blocks, basic methods of punching and striking, kicking, stepping, twisting, flying, and ground fighting, grappling, and weapons training, self defense, and meditations, is again when we remember the order of what we were taught, and how we were taught that technique, especially if that technique has two or three methods of doing it. If ever you would want to be an instructor, you have to be able to remember what was taught first, why it was taught first, and what comes next. All of this is again so very important if you want to teach yourself. The reason being, you want to be able to teach your students as you yourself were taught. Give everyone under your wing, the same chance you had. This is very important, and I am not going to mention it again. One more time, look at what I have been saying since I started at the top of this page, from warm ups, to basics, to intermediate to various techniques that are taught in an order, you have to remember what order, this is very important. I have seen instructors actually argue as to what comes first, then that one student who did exactly as he or she was told from the very beginning of their classes, write everything down. When you start, you put lesson number one, and what you were taught, lesson number two, and what you were taught, lesson number three, and what you were taught. Tell me then, how could anyone forget what was taught when. Again you do now see my point, and this is more important not just someone becoming an instructor, but for everyone that loves the martial arts, that wants to practise it correctly, and wants to always remember those lessons that they loved so much. If ever they move and there are no classes of martial arts, you can take out your notes, and you will see exactly what you were taught in that first class, and you can practise it, again with the second, and third and forth, so on and so on, please to all students and teachers, this is the way it has been for thousands of years, and this is the way it should be for the next ten thousand years. These most amazing techniques from the wisdom of the ancients, has been past down to all of us. Keep it as it was taught to you, teach it as it was taught to you, and remember it, because you wrote down each and every class you went too. Now remember this one, if you have not done this, not to worry, start now, it matters not if you have been going for six months and have not written one note, start at any time, and you would have not only done yourself a service, but everyone that comes under your wing in the future. Sure right now you say, you will never be an instructor because you do not like to teach. But you know what, I have heard that one before, it is usually from someone who is shy, but years later they become more confident, and their minds change. Sometimes those who say they would never be good instructors and could never teach, actually sometime make the best instructors. Everyone can teach, but to teach correctly only comes from those who are wise. Wisdom can only come from the teachings of the ancients, grasp each and every word, read as much as you can about ancient China. Forgive me for being " Redundant", but I have to be in some areas that I want all of you to make sure to understand, and if you do not understand, ask your instructor.
Back to the practise of technique: Now you have been told, write down every class that you learn, as you learn it, your instructor will tell you to write down your notes as soon as you get home, this way it will be fresh in your mind. Now you have been told, that it is important to give each and every student under your wing, exactly what you have been given, and exactly in the same order. Sometimes you hear a student say, oh he or she taught me wrong, I was taught this way. Another student will stand up and say, but I was taught it this way. You want to know why this starts at all. For one thing the instructors that are teaching these techniques, are teaching them out of order. They are not teaching these techniques wrong, they are teaching out of order. Again you have to all remember this when it comes up, talk about this page, and what it says. Sometimes a little knowledge will go along way. And it shows you all that every one of you were right, no one was wrong, and this is very important, for each and everyone of you to get that chip off of your shoulders. There are many types of techniques, for instance Self Defense techniques Combat Techniques Poison hand techniques Master hand techniques Iron palm techniques Iron body techniques Kicking techniques Blocking techniques Punching techniques Striking techniques Weapon techniques Chi Kung Techniques Techniques from forms
So much more, but hope this gives you an idea
Another explanation for a technique, is a set series of motions strung together to cause a power that other wise could not have been created. Many of these motions came from actual combat experience. So the masters would put these techniques in the forms, knowing full well the forms would be practised by the next generation of students and teachers. Many of the techniques also came from various practise sessions together or separate. One of the Monks would watch close as an animal would protect himself, they watched the same animal over and over, doing this same motion. They would copy this motion knowing full well that each animal had a special disposition about them, they were all special and each one had special types of gifts. The Tiger was full of courage and would pounce on his pray cutting the arties in its neck, the Eagle could swoop down and grab a fish in the water with its talons, fly up to a branch hold on to its kill with its talons while it uses its powerful beak to eat. The deer is a sacred animal in China, the Deer is full of, "Chi", and a mystical power. The Deer sleeps with its hooves touching the ground, allowing the Deer to sense any type of motion. Much more to come
Come back soon Much more to come Under Construction
