Hung Kuen

Our First system to mention is Hung Kuen, not just any Hung Kuen System, "There are many", but a very intricate system of Southern and Northern styles created in 17th century China. This system was developed at the Southern Shaolin Temple before it was burned to the ground, by an evil government at that time.

Because the monks became so well known for being undefeatable in battle, the government thought it might be next if it was treating it's citizens wrongly, which it was. The temple was surrounded by thousands of soldiers. Many monks were killed, however some did manage to get away. We bring you the best of what they taught in secret for hundreds if not thousands of years. This is a system that has nothing to do with sport, or Martial sports as you see today on TV, or with most schools in the western world.

It was developed for war and for self protection for the monks as they walked from Temple to Temple bringing with them secret scroll's, or other valuable artifacts that needed to be protected at all cost. Only the best warrior monks were given this duty. To be specific, there were many types of monks that developed various areas of expertize. Even though they all had to learn martial art for protection, some developed in areas of healing, others in areas of scripture, and of course what is known as the warrior monks who spent all their time developing their minds and bodies.

When talking about Traditional martial arts we have to make sure you understand that the Chinese Martial arts were not all about fighting, that is such a uneducated ideal about these arts. Meditation was just as important if not more, healing was as important if not more than fighting, and above all the teachings of the temple was not to hurt people, not to learn how to beat people, but to forgive, to have compassion, to be humble. One very unique saying from the Buddhist schools was, "you can try to hurt me and I will do nothing to you", because I have been trained to take blows to my body. However if you try to hurt my family, my friends or anyone that cannot defend themselves, then you had better watch out because we will not tolerate this type of behavior.
