Ancient Methods

Stretching one of the most important aspects of your training

Sifu Gallant showing how to stretch

Make sure to breathe out when you go down, and when you come back up to the sitting position breath in but very calm and slow, don't jerk as you pull yourself down, meaning you grab your leg with your hand and start to pull yourself down a little bit more every time you stretch. Don't worry about fast results, it will come as long as you do it every second day. And make sure when you start to come up, take a deep breath in slowly and keep going until your spine is straight and you are sitting up. As you go back down make sure to breathe out again very slowly and don't make any jerking movements.

Stretching is one of the most important training methods for martial arts.

What makes the martial arts so different is the use of legs for kicking.

Stretching does not have to be boring at all, it can be fun, but make sure to stay focused at all times and don't take your mind off of your stretching when stretching.

Two person stretching is very important also, you always seem to allow someone else to push you further

Tell the students to get a partner, the small person always puts his feet inside the taller of the two. Then Stretch the legs while someone pulls his partners hands. As they start to go the other way, they switch rolls, one leans forward while the other one pulls his hands in tight to give your partner a better stretch.

Here is another way to do it with two person, have both students sit on the floor with legs wide open, now one student brings his legs togehter in front of himself, and pushes hard against the other students back. The student who is being pushed is trying to put his forhead on the ground in front of him. This might take longer for some, and less time for others, the point is the results will help you with your forms, technique, kicking, and so much more.

Here is another angle of the one above
