Short Bridge Techniques
Short bridge techniques favour attacking inside of their attackers defense, not outside. They also like to trap arms, stick to their attacker, and use various types of punching techniques that create power from only one inch away. Short bridge is a very interesting area of Chinese Boxing, it is a very unique method of defending one self. Some people might be confused when hearing that name, short bridge, what is it. Well for one thing, looking at a Chinese Boxing style that most people have heard of, because of Bruce Lee, is Wing Chun. Wing Chun in Hong Kong back in the 50s and 60s, was one of the methods of fighting that really worked, and worked well against most other styles. Another type of Short bridge art is Tai Liu Chuan fa, another is White Eyebrow, however in White Eyebrow they do have some long bridge, but they do favour the short bridge techniques and do it very well.
When you watch two students training short or long length together seamlessly, it is beautiful to watch, deadly but beautiful.
Years and Years ago, these two started to work together. This is one aspect of the martial arts that no one would ever learn, unless they were involved in the martial arts for a very long time and had a partner they worked with daily for years. When you work with one partner as much as possible, it is amazing what develops later for both students. As both students start to learn each others arms length, method of moving, and basically reading each others movements. What develops is something no one would ever understand unless you experienced it, and that is all I can say about this. The problem with most is, every one seems to have different plans in life. You can start to get used to moving with someone, and all of a sudden, they have found a job somewhere far away and can't work with you any longer. Once that happens it is so strange, almost like part of you is walking away with them. It is a truly amazing experience, I can't say it enough, but what I will say is if any one of you have this, try to keep it for as long as you can, because both will learn so much more.
More to come soon
