Push Hands

[Under Construction]

Push hands

There are many types of push hands, not only in Tai Chi but many other systems of Kung Fu also. Push hands is known much more in Tai Chi, but every internal system of Chinese Martial arts has their own unique methods of Push hands. In our Ying Yee, we not only have push hands, but free style push hands just as in most of the advanced Tai Chi systems. Free style push hands is a technique practiced by two people together, the longer they work together, the better it looks, and the more they can read each others movements, by locking wrists. Once used to this method, you don't even have to use your hands to see your opponent, you can read his every motion through the slight motions of his arm. As long as you are touching part of your opponents body, you can read his movements. It is very hard to reach the level of, Free Style Push Hands, most students only ever reach the first level of push hands, done with only one hand each. Later after they become expert in this method, they learn a new method that uses both arms and hands. Later in their training, after both learn to move with their teacher, or master, is when they can go back to each other and move with each other exactly how they were taught to move when they were moving with their teacher. You can move around all you want with your partner, and yes you can learn many ways to move, but nothing teaches you like doing it with a master level, that is when you truly learn to move like it was meant to be. We have not had to many students in the last thirty years that have attained this level. The Croy family all reached this level with relative ease, as did Sifu van Hoof.  We have had other students that were able to push hands with the best of them. Today at this time Sifu Dee, and Sifu Gallant are not only doing Push hands to a very high level of skill, they are amazing to watch while they do it. They have worked with each other for so many years now, that when they do their free style push hands, they are totally amazing to watch. Master Croy taught them another very high level recently and with that they have been working very hard to perfect it, as Master Croy told them, if they think this level is amazing, just wait until they make it through this one, the next one will blow them away. We also have blind fold push hands, and that is another area not to many students have ever been able to learn. Most students have a hard enough time with all the basics, and forms, and self defense techniques, what all of these extra special training secrets are for, is those who push the Chinese martial arts to levels normal people could never do, not because they can't, it is because they won't. Many are to lazy, others only want the martial arts for a hobby, and then their are others who join because of a friend. The very few will not only make it through the basics, they make it through the Sash levels also with ease, and it is these students that will learn those things that most students of the martial arts would never know existed because they did not want to take the martial arts to that level. Remember the level I am talking about is a level that only one percent of students make it through, the other Ninty nine percent, don't even make it through the belt program.

Much more to come soon:

For now here are some pictures of Sifu Gallant and Sifu Dee working together with Free style push hands. As I have said, it is amazing to watch these two work together, they have really inspired me, watching these two do so well together, both taking the martial arts to places not to many ever see.

These two are amazing to watch

Try to be back soon to fill in a few explanations of what they are doing, however when most people think of push hands, they think of two people moving very slowly back and forth to each other in a figure eight sequence. However I have to say that is a very basic level, but must be accomplished before learning another level. The level that they are doing above is one of the highest forms, and it is truly amazing to watch these two move in and around each other, it is actually remarkable to see two Sifu work together, rather then two basic black belts.

Thanks for coming, hope to see you soon
