Places around the World
We have many friends that live all over the world. We are in contact with Sigung Tallbear, we are in contact with great friends from Germany, western Canada, from U.S.A. and from China. Our friends in Germany are Roman and his family, and students, he has trained in many types of Chinese Martial arts. Over the last thirty years he has earned his Master Degree for his achievements. He is still working on Ja Gow and Kempo or Hung Kuen techniques and will keep up his training into old age. Roman is a wonderful man, honest, sincere, and very loyal. With the introduction of the internet to most of us, when talking with people on the internet, or meeting people on the internet, it seems that I have the same rule as I do when meeting them in person. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, always find that trust, honour, and loyalty, is something that will come along the way once people get to know each other. Another person that I met but do not know as well as Roman, is Sifu Richard Shergold, of Edmonton, he is a wonderful example of the new Grand Masters coming up for future generations. Sifu Shergold also had a style of martial arts that is very secretive and very amazing, it is White Eyebrow Kung Fu. There are lots of people you will met who are complete idiots, but still always try to be nice to them no matter what, do not stoop to their level, and give them any satisfaction of getting you all upset. This behaviour is so strange for someone like me, or I should say us who come from the rural Ontario, "For Example", we stop playing head games by the time we go through our teen age years in high school. As it seems, as time goes by, we find more people that are disloyal, dishonest, and do not have a sincere bone in their body. Believe it or not, it is so strange for us to see adults acting like children. No matter what has happened in their lives, they have to blame others, they cannot ever blame themselves, because they are perfect, or so they think they are. That is why I have to say that another group of people we met that did not act strange once you got to know them, was our friends from Germany, they are as loyal and sincere today as they were from the first day we met them, and more often then not, we find that they are brought up with the same morals as we in the Ottawa Valley. Very hard to find people like this today, and I am sure that each and every one of you that come from a small community know exactly what I am talking about, but you know what, don't ever stop trying, and always give people a chance. So what if they try to manipulate your words, or are dishonest, the fact remains you do not have to talk to anyone ever again if you feel they are taking advantage of your friendship, yes you can give some one a chance also, but not some one that acts terribly always. That is why I had to say it like this, because it's true we have met a lot of great people, and some terrible, however that does not mean to discredit all because of the few. Plus I have to say that even if you go through one hundred people to find one good one, then I have to say it is worth it. One good friend is worth more then all the money in the world. This is another reason why I am saying this the way I am. Another thing is to always look for the goodness in people. To always make sure to give everyone a chance, to forgive them when they make a mistake, no matter who it is. But not to let this get out of control. Like the Dali Lama says of a mosquito landing on his arm, first time, he shoos it away with his breath, second time he brushes it away with his hand, the third time the mosquito lands on him, smack, it's dead. One thing that I found in Sifu Fiedler's notes is a story about people talking bad about other people. Sifu Fiedler explains that many times when getting to know someone, they start talking ill of someone else. They try to turn you away from getting to know someone. Not because these people are truly bad, or because they are evil. The reason most of the time is the other way around. The people that are doing the talking, are usually the people that are the bad. Sifu Fiedler says that he would then go out of his way to talk to that someone that he was told was bad. More often then not, these people were the best people Sifu Fiedler ever met, with more knowledge, more compassion, and far more integrity. I hope you can see why these people try to steer us away from others, it's because they are jealous. Remember every time we do something that is negative, it stops us from being able to go to the highest levels of internal strength. Internal strength does not come from exercise alone, it comes from having a pure heart, it comes from having pure consciousness. People that are pure of heart, will reach the highest levels of their internal training. Always try to be the best you can be to others, to your family, to your Martial arts family, and to all friends and co workers. Doing so will lead you through the most wonderful journey, and remember also, each journey starts with that first step. Take that first step, always correct your own actions, always look in the mirror of life. Look deep into your own eyes, and you will find every single problem you have inside your own heart, deal with it, move on to the next problem until you have become pure of heart. I can only hope that most of you would try hard to understand what this means. " To be Pure of Heart".
