Lower Algonquin

[Under Construction]

Georgian Bay

A few times throughout the years we have traveled to the lower part of Algonquin Park. It's amazing to see the Canadian shield stop, and the hard wood forest start. One of the nicest places I have ever seen is the Georgian Bay National Park. On the island of Georgian Bay National Park, half is the Canadian shield, and the other half is hardwoods, it is so beautiful. It is also where the animals start to change from southern Canada, and the northern areas. In this part of the south, we start to find the only rattle snake in Ontario. The snake is called the Mississauga Rattler. It is a pretty little snake, but is very rare now because of the cottages that are going up all over its habitat. That is why when I seen what they were doing with the Georgian Bay National Park, I was so happy that they are starting to truly care for every living thing. There is also a park in the interior a little, it has the only lizard in Ontario, and it is called the Blue tailed Skink. When the Skink is young, it has a beautiful bright blue tail. When the Skink starts to reach adult, is when the blue colour of the tail starts to go away. On these travels, we set out to find the rattler, and the Skink, we only found the Skink, but it was well worth it, they were extremely beautiful, and abundant where we found them. The snake was a different story, however from all the people we talked too, from campers to Park Staff, they all told us that the island is full of the Mississauga Rattler.

Sifu Dee and I traveled to these areas a few times, and all I can say is it was absolutely beautiful, if ever you have the chance to go to Midland, or any of the other small towns down close to Georgian Bay, please stop in for a week end, or go camping on the Georgian Bay National Park. If you choose to stay on the island, you have to make sure to phone ahead and reserve a camp site, this place is extremely sought after. It truly is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Of course I could say this about many places all along the East Coast of Canada, as well as the West. All over Canada are some of the most beautiful places in the world. If ever you have a chance to travel from one end of Canada to the other, please go, you will never ever regret it.

Native American Meeting place on top of this rock tower

On the top of this rock, is a place that holds around ten people. The natives had a place where they held important meetings. They would pull a wooden platform across to the rock, then when they were all on the rock, have the platform pulled away so no one else could enter the meeting. They say that when some of the elders would argue, some were thrown to their deaths, when some would be caught doing some offense, again thrown to their deaths. Below this areas, there are caves with ice in them for the whole year. They used these areas as large fridges. Also below in these caves there is a place where the natives had five entrances, or escapes, if the enemy came, they had places to hide, once the enemy were inside, they would throw down large rocks on them, and would jump out from their hiding places when trying to escape the trap set for them. This was another very educational place for me to see. The reason for this is one of Sifu Fiedler's Grand Masters is a son of a Mohawk Chief. Because of this, Sifu Fiedler has studied Native Americans for most of his adult life.

Looking over a cliff

There are many paths you can walk on into the park, from the highway that runs through the lower part of Algonquin. There are many types of forests, hardwood, pine, and everything in between. It is very beautiful, even throughout the different seasons. However some of these paths do go towards cliff edges that are so far down, you truly have to watch where you step, and make sure you do not trip over anything. Take your time, cherish the wonderful nature that God has given us all, and please if you take children, make sure they are safe away from the edge.

Far Down

On one of these cliffs, there is a cross where someone fell. looking at this picture you would not think it looks to far down, but being there, oh boy, it is very far down.
