Long Bridge 1

Long Bridge

Long Bridge, or long length martial arts systems use long open techniques, rather then short arm or closed techniques. Long Bridge motion is very beautiful to watch. However it's power is very deceiving. Long Bridge has many systems, some that are very well known are Northern Long Fist, and Choy Lay Fut. Also Bok Huk Pai is another White Crane Long Bridge system that has many beautiful long bridge forms, however some of the long bridge also have short bridge techniques inside of their systems in order to understand how to block and defend against that type of style. That is why most of the Systems of Kung Fu, are made up of twenty different styles of martial arts. Of course there are still many styles of Chinese Kung Fu, as with Wing Chun, or Choy Lay Fut, and yes even Long Fist, or Northern Long Fist.

Even though they are known for one type of motion, does not mean they ignore another. Remember the saying that says to understand true hard, you must first understand true soft, and visa versa. Well it is the same as long and short techniques in order to understand one fully, it is best to understand the other. Bok Huk Pai might have long bridge techniques and forms, but it still has many short bride techniques, this way the students are better equipped to defend against any type of martial art.

More on long bridge later

Attacker steps in to punch

As he steps in, we step back and cut downward on his block, we make sure to move back only enough to get out of the way, not to far back, or he will not come for the next blow, you have to try to suck him into punching you once more, the only way to do this is to stay as close as you can, allow him to just miss you, and make sure to block properly, this takes time to learn, but the results speak for themselves.

Again he punches in and just misses, and now he is going to get angry and really step in punching harder then ever

This time we side step, and use a long bridge round house punch, making sure to block behind us, and attack in front of us.

Much more to come with long bridge soon
