Herbal Meds and culture

When Sifu Fiedler was being taught by GM Chow, he was living in the same house as all of his brothers, sisters, parents and cousins. It was totally amazing for Sifu Fiedler he wrote. He was talking about so many things that the Chinese did so different then what we did when we grew up. The children of these wonderful families, knew how to make Herbal remedies when very young. They would start very young to help their grand parents, and parents. If they were sick, or ill, the children, would get what ever herbal medicine they needed, and when they were finished, they would bring it to who ever needed it, help them drink it, and also go back into the kitchen, and clean it all up. I was so shocked at the difference between cultures. Well in reality, in Canada or USA, we have no culture, it has been ripped away from us. If we look at the old Germans, the old Russians, and the old of many races, they have culture as interesting as the Chinese. But since people migrated to the West, they left the culture at home, or if the parents brought it with them, by the time the children grew up and left home, they had lost what the parents were trying to teach them. We loose so much without culture, that is why our children are so bad, that is why our children get such low marks in school, they know they do not have to try, where the Chinese know they have to try, not only try, they have to be the best, and get the best marks. He found that so different then what our children do here, and I mean the majority, not everyone, because we do have many children that are great at school. Here when children are as  old as the Chinese children were when making herbal meds, they would be playing with toys, and saying no to their parents, the Chinese children are always giving respect to the adults whether parents, uncles, aunts, or other, they have a name for each one which gives them deep respect. After living with the Chinese family for as many years as Sifu Fiedler did, he said he learned so much, so much about culture, so much about family from other countries. And this is a part of his life, he would never ever change. It was one of the best times in his whole life he told us all. Going onto another part of the world, we look right in our own backyard, and you know what, the natives here in Canada do the same thing. They have the elders, who teach the children which herbs to pick and when, and after they learn which to bring to the elders. That is when the elders will start to teach their chidlern when and what to use. Many of the herbs that they picked for years, was meant for them to learn the names, what they looked like, what they smelled like, and what part of the body the herb was for. This is what they would have to learn before going onto the next area of study, which would be to know how to prepare the medicine and know exactly how much to give someone that is sick and how often to give it to them. Sifu Fiedler found that amazing, that the Chinese and Native Americans do the same with their own cultures.
