Edmonton from the Air

These pictures were taken during the 70s in Alberta. Sifu Fiedler had a student who flew every week end all over Alberta to achieve a higher level licence in flying. His requirement was to put in as many hours as he could with in a time frame. Sifu Fiedler was asked one day if he wanted to go up flying one week end. Sifu Fiedler had never been in a small aircraft, he could not believe how small it was. Sitting inside you were shoulder to shoulder with the doors closed. Sifu Fiedler also could not believe it when he asked his student if he had a parachute. Well Sifu Fiedler's student started to laugh so hard, telling Sifu Fiedler that if they went down, there would be no time to open a chute. That was when Sifu Fiedler started to become very frightened. He became even more so once the plane started to take off, the noise was horrible, but once up in the air, Sifu Fiedler was hooked. It did not matter when his friend went up from that day on, Sifu Fiedler was with. Sifu Fiedler says that one day he had to land on a mountain runway. On one side was a cliff that went straight down hundreds of feet, on the other side was another cliff going straight like a wall of rock. Go one side to far, down the cliff, go the other side to far and into the wall of rock. His student started to land the plane, and the wind was so strong, that to this very day Sifu Fiedler says his finger imprints are still on the dash. What happened was a large gust of wind came hard against the plane as he was landing, the plane went sideways, with one wing one inch from touching the ground on one side, on the other the wing was up in the air. Sifu Fiedler's student stayed calm throughout the landing, and did an excellent job against the wind. However Sifu Fiedler could not take his grip off of the dash, he was so frightened of going over the cliff he thought they were finished, but it all turned out much better then what was in Sifu Fiedler's imagination. Oh Boy what a time that was. Sifu Fiedler kept on going up with Mr. Paterson for years. When Sifu Fiedler moved back to Pembroke in 1981, it was over. But he will never ever forget his time flying with his friend and student Mr Paterson. Another thing that happened was his friend started to teach Sifu Fiedler how to fly. The very first time that Sifu Fiedler took the steering wheel, he could not believe the response, a slight touch of the wheel and you would really go fast in that direction. Sifu Fiedler loved that experience. It was a great time, and very educational. Again Sifu Fiedler says, look at what Kung Fu can bring to you, it matters not what or who it comes from, but because of the martial arts you will have many doors opened. The Chinese martial arts can bring you many treasures along your journey. With Sifu Fiedler it was looking at the planets with a telescope. Also looking at spiders and flies through a microscope. He studied as much as he could about nature and animals. Even though many of these treasures have nothing to do with the martial arts, it is the martial arts that set him on the path that he walked. It was Edmonton that gave Sifu Fiedler the knowledge he worked hard for dealing with the martial arts. It was Edmonton that introduced Sifu Fiedler to Grand Master Chow, and without meeting and training with Grand Master Chow, Sifu Fiedler says he would never have been able to learn from Grand Master Tallbear. Both GM Chow, and GM Tallbear taught Sifu Fiedler very rare martial art forms, that we should all be grateful for to this very day. For without Sifu Fiedler going through what he went through, not one of us would have the arts that we have today, and again we should all Thank God for what has been given to us.

Sifu Fiedler, Mr K. Ryan

Mr. Kim Ryan, training with Sifu Fiedler, Mr. Ryan, was an instructor for the children's class in the Hung Kuen school that Sifu Fiedler went to learn from. Mr. Ryan, was also Sifu Fiedler's first training partner in his life. That is what makes all the difference in the world, having someone to train with daily that want the same from martial arts as you do, to be the best at all you can do. Sifu Fiedler says he was very fortunate to have the people he had to train with.

Eight Years after starting the martial arts in Edmonton. When this picture was taken, Sifu Fiedler was already flying to Vegas to learn from GM Tallbear. GM Tallbear taught a very rare form of Southern Eagle and Mantis.

The Greatest Group of Guys Sifu Fiedler met out west, each and every one of these guys meant something to Sifu Fiedler

Excellent student from out west

Another excellent student from out west, his name is Willie. The only student from out west, who visited Sifu Fiedler in Pembroke a number of times. In fact Willie would come every couple of years. Sifu Fiedler says it was always nice to hear from him, and see him, plus to hear all about what it was like in Edmonton again.

Grand Master Chow

Grand Master Chow flying through the air doing flying spinning crescent kick, this club was the reason Sifu Fiedler was able to leave the Hung Kuen School. This is the school where Sifu Fiedler taught while not in Vegas. Sifu Fiedler lived in Vegas for one month, went back to Edmonton for three months, back to Vegas for one month, Edmonton for three, this went on for two to three years, it was one of the best learning experiences Sifu Fiedler had, he explains.

At this time, the only person that is in touch with us from Alberta,  is Sifu Richard Shergold. Sifu Shergold trains a number of Systems, but his main style is White Tiger which he trains diligently. Still after all the years he has been training, he still finds the time to train every single day, not because he has too, because he loves it. White Tiger System is a very amazing system that teaches all  the angles, and most of the bridge techniques, meaning long and short bride and mixed long and short bridge, which is the higher level of one or the other. White Tiger like White Eyebrow is also famous for its Phoenix eye fist techniques, but it is also famous for many other areas of martial arts expertise. Sifu Shergold and Sifu Fiedler made a tight friendship after two or more people on the internet were trying to get them to argue against each other. They did not know each other at before this time, but soon enough found time to talk to each other. After that first time talking, they found they had a lot in common, from training with some of the same masters, like GM Mark Chan, Sifu Fiedler was training with GM Chan, off and on back in the 70s. When Sifu Shergold told Sifu Fiedler he was still training with GM Mark Chan, it brought a smile to Sifu Fiedler's face, as it brought back so many memories. GM Mark Chan was always a very kind and wonderful teacher. It did not matter how high, or how low you were as a student, GM Mark Chan always found the time to help anyone with questions. Sifu Shergold even said that one day if ever he is in Ontario, down in Toronto, he might be able to take a detour up to Pembroke to run a class with Sifu Dee, Sihing Jean Mathieu, Sihing Gary Sutton, Sihing Gary Hartlin, Sihing Evan Burgess, Sifu Charles Croy, Sifu James Croy, Sifu Krys van Hoof, and a few others that help.

Thanks so much to each and every one of you.
