Many people wonder what the difference between modern and traditional martial arts. Well for one thing traditional Wu Shu teaches as it was taught a thousand years ago. We not only teach you how to defend yourself in any situation. We also teach various forms of meditation. "What is the body without the mind", honestly there is a very big difference. Many people omit meditation from there systems this day and age, Why? because it is to hard to get students to stay with it. One has to sit, stand, or lie down for the very least twenty minutes a day every single day, without stopping ever. You eat, you sleep, you play and you must also do your meditation. We also teach philosophy, another aspect of the martial arts that is lacking in this modern world. Many teachers feel this is unnecessary and not important, but we beg to differ. Philosophy is very important and must be taught to teach students, especially young students how to act around others. How to treat others, most importantly that your worst enemy is yourself. It's like learning how to defeat yourself before you can defeat others.
We also go into many different types of weapons that would never be used either this day and age, so why train them. For one thing it keeps history alive. For another training various weapons helps develop the body and mind into something you would never feel unless you trained these methods.
Art is another area, however we do not teach art in our schools. Basically what I mean about art is drawing, painting, carving, or other, the point is how would you know if you are good at something if you never tried it. You have to try things in order to see how to do with it. So what we are trying to say is we try to help you in the right direction by teaching you it is an important aspect to ones inner self. Music is another art, a whole different ball game so to speak, as important as art is. Again we do not teach instruments in our classes, but we do teach our students the importance of playing the piano, or classical guitar, or other instruments. Its not important what you practice in music, what is important is that you try, again how would you ever know you could do it unless you gave it a shot. We know a student who was injured very badly. One year he got a carving set from his friends, so he tried it. He used a soft pine board and started to carve faces, and the second one, was amazing, it was absolutely amazing. He never had classes to teach him how to carve, nor did he have any type of lessons through books. What was so interesting was every face he carved was a different race of human. Truly remarkable.
